How long is a typical session?

Sessions are usually full of information and interaction. You are a real and valued part of your own healing. This means that a typical session is approximately 90 minutes in length and may stretch to full 2 hours.

For procedures, tests and some regression and therapy techniques the session may be scheduled for 2-3 hours.

How many sessions do I need?

There is no set number of sessions. Each case is individual in nature and this makes it unrealistic to estimate session numbers without consultation. Please come for your free consultation and we'll be able to determine the most beneficial number of sessions together.

What is Holistic Health

Holistic Health, Holistic Nutrition and Mind-Body Work is much more than finding remedies for your symptoms. Holistic Health is about finding what you can do to find and maintain optimal health.

Holistic Health Practitioner or Medical Doctor?

Among other things, a Medical Doctor is trained in Medicine and Diagnostics, prescribes Medication to deal with patients who come to them with symptoms and refers to specialists.

A Holistic Health Practitioner is a Guide to Wellness with knowledge of Nutrition, Herbal and Vitamin Supplements, Mind-Body Techniques, etc. specifically trained to help you make choices for wellness and healing that go beyond the work of a Medical Doctor. A Holistic Health Practitioner takes time to evaluate where the client's nutrition or lifestyle would benefit from healthier choices, supplementation and finding permanent (and root cause) solutions to their health and concentrates on working with the client to healing the person (as a whole) providing ways to deal with the root cause of illnesses and focusing on prevention through health.

The choice is not always clear but as a rule of thumb go to a Medical Doctor for Diagnostics, with Symptoms of illness and for Medical supervision. Go to a Holistic Health Practitioner when a Medical answer cannot be found or is not appropriate. A Holistic Health Practitioner

What is the difference between Healing and Medicine?

There are many differences, of course. And many medicinal compounds are derivatives of Herbs and plants. The importance of the Mind-Body Connection is beginning to filter into the Medical Community also yet the main difference is in the approach to health.

There are a few overlaps, but the approach is so different that it is hard to find practitioners who have the time and training to provide both Medical and Holistic approaches to patients. Unfortunately, the current Medical Insurance structure allows for very little overlap, resulting in the creation of two distinct camps. The Medical Doctors and the Holistic Healers.

Medicine tends to focus on attacking the symptoms of a disease. In addition, medicine trends towards the pharmaceutical approaches to health. Research and development is spent on replacing simple remedies with pharmaceutical Medicine, simply for profit. This increases the momentum towards technology and reductionist chemistry from ancient, often well-known and highly effective (and unprofitable) common remedies, as current medical research is funded solely in pursuit of profit.

Holistic Health tends to focus on the person's overall health, the stresses they place on their lives and the impact their lifestyle has on their immune system as well as providing remedies for boosting various functions and coping with problems.

Holistic Healing doesn't stop at reducing or eliminating symptoms. Healing goes beyond Medicine and approaches the illness or disorder with the aim of dealing with it from its origin, the root cause.

How often do I need a Cleanse or Detox?

This depends on how toxic your systems are.

We're concerned initially with parasitic load, liver toxicity, colon toxicity and fat toxicity levels. Once we determine the 'headroom' we can determine how often you need to do a Cleanse or Detox and in what order.

If you haven't done a Parasite Cleanse in the last 5 years, you're definitely due for one right now. Liver and Colon Cleanses are not recommended unless you have addressed other possible nutritional issues, considering that the toxins are re-released into the body, loading the liver once more.

Fat cannot be detoxified using herbs. Toxic fat must be metabolized and the body is reluctant to reabsorb the fats which have trapped toxins or which are toxic derivatives themselves. During periods of starvation-diets, the body first reabsorbs the good fats; fats which are made up of fully saturated stearic acids. Once the good fats are depleted, toxic fatigue sets in and the body has a difficult time processing the toxic fats.

Nutrition Choices at the base of Health

Nutritional Analysis starts a process which enables you an insight into your nutritional intake and deficiencies.

Conventional, Allopathic Medicine tends to be preoccupied with restoring health when a patient shows signs of illness. Restoring health makes the assumption that a person is healthy in the absence of illness.

You are what you Eat and so Nutrition is the foundation of health. "A healthy person is incapable of getting Cancer - or any other disease, for that matter" says Charlotte Gerson of the Gerson Institute.

A truly healthy person starts from the 2 most simple goals of Nutritional Health:

  • Don't put anything in your mouth that your body doesn't recognize
  • Don't eat anything that any other organism wouldn't eat

To learn what foods your body recognizes and what foods have real nutrition is what Nutritional Health is all about. (there's lots of links all over the web site which provide great information on Nutrition and Health)

Remember, when you read an article about 'they found' a compound in a plant which heals something - it is usually ineffective as an isolated compound; it usually works properly when taken as a WHOLE plant or herb, in the right stage of its development.

Orthomolecular Medicine

Orthomolecular medicine describes the practice of preventing and treating disease by providing the body with optimal amounts of substances which are natural to the body.

Two-time Nobel Prize winner, and molecular biologist, Linus Pauling, Ph.D.,coined the term "Orthomolecular" in his 1968 article"Orthomolecular Psychiatry" in the journal "Science."

Pauling is one of only four individuals to have won more than one Nobel Prize. He is one of only two people awarded Nobel Prizes in different fields (the Chemistry and Peace prizes), the other being Marie Curie (the Chemistry and Physics prizes), and the only person awarded two unshared prizes.

Holistic Health uses Orthomolecular Medicine for sub-clinical analysis of nutritional needs. The initial assessment we provide as a free service to our web visitors.

I eat healthy, but I still have symptoms - why?

There are several reasons why you may continue to have symptoms.

  • Have you considered allergies or intolerances to foods or food combinations?
  • Have you considered that you may THINK you're eating healthy foods, but you are, in fact, eating foods which are Juvenile, Modified, Processed, etc?
  • Have you considered that your food may be contaminated? (Ingredients must be listed, but trace elements and contaminants are currently not listed anywhere)
  • Have you considered marketing? Some of the foods we consider to be healthy are, in fact, modified foods - with nutritional consequences.
  • Have you considered the Mind-Body Connection? Are there reasons to feel this way? Maybe Hypnosis can uncover the link?
  • Have you considered Candida, Enzyme Problems, pH problems, parasites, hormones? Maybe a test is in order.
  • Your symptoms may show a disease or disorder which is (or has become) outside of Holistic Health scope, in which case, please see a Medical Doctor.

You may want to consider a visit to your nearest Holistic Health Practitioner for an in-depth discussion regarding your symptoms.

Difference between Herbal and Nutritional Supplements

Hippocrates, the father of all medicine said: "Let food be thy medicine".
This wise saying still stands today. Our foods form the core of all wellness.

When we're talking about Nutrition, we're talking about the requirements of our body for life and wellness. Essential foods which are used within our bodies for maintaining health.

When we're talking about Herbs, we're talking about natural-based additions to assist in our wellness or to stimulate healing processes, cleansing processes, initiate therapeutic processes or providing additional support for our immune systems and healing responses.

Unlike Medicine, which is focused on responding to illness, Holistic Health is focused on creating and maintaining wellness.

Creating an abundance in health, allows our bodies and immune systems spare capacity for cleansing, healing and wellness. There are many ways in which Herbal and Nutritional Supplements assist the body in its functions.

Is Herbal Medicine Dangerous?

Herbal Medicine can be dangerous. Some herbs and supplements can only be taken in limited doses and may even interfere with other drugs or in combination.

Some herbs are marketed as an important component to x- type problem, but without the knowledge of the whole person and the interactions with the rest of the person's lifestyle you are only getting part of the message. Some Herbs only work well in combination with others, or while avoiding other foods. Please consult a Holistic Health Practitioner before embarking on a Herbal route. They can tell you how the herbs interact in a supportive or potentially dangerous way with others.

Herbs vs Conventional Medicine

Many conventional Medicine compounds come from Herbs. Often the discovery of the compound leads to purification of the compound and a medicine is 'discovered'.

The main difference between a Herbal approach and a Medicinal approach is that the herbal approach is gentle and often addresses underlying issues, while the medicinal approach is mean to quell the symptoms of a problem quickly, with less regard for side effects of using the potent reduced compound.

You see, in most cases, Herbs contain various additional, and natural, compounds not found in the drug which was derived from it. Herbs contain buffer chemicals which support the ongoing delivery of the compound. Herbs also contain the anti-dote and other supporting chemicals, allowing the body to absorb what it needs and the supporting chemistry to support other, often underlying elements of the problem using balance and harmony rather than force to make the changes in our bodies.

Please don't disregard the importance of our own body's healing response. Bodies which heal when they're ready and able heal more completely. Bodies which are forced to abandon their healing response symptoms quickly, often suffer the same problems later on.

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Questions

Go to: Top

Can I be hypnotized?

Yes you can. Every person with an IQ of 70 or higher can be hypnotized if they want to. Hypnosis uses this natural ability that everybody has, to create a mind-space that allows your conscious to drift into a trance-like state.  And it is during this time that your subconscious mind is at the fore-front. Hypnotists facilitate a dialogue, directly with the un-critical subconscious mind and in doing so, the subconscious mind allows the suggestions to have the most impact on the client.

Can I stay in hypnosis?

In a Hypnotic Trance, you rely on your Hypnotist to keep contact with you through their spoken word. You may experience imagery and feelings in another place and time, but your Hypnotist remains clearly audible to you at all times.

If the Hypnotist would need to leave the room for more than a few minutes or stopped talking, they would no longer be speaking to you and you would emerge from hypnosis quickly. You would either emerge alert and awake, or you would emerge by transitioning into a light sleep, from which you will awaken in a few minutes, just as if you had just taken a 'cat nap'.

Am I going to remember the session?

One of the most common misconceptions surrounding Hypnosis is the idea that you wont remember what happened, or you lose consciousness.

In some of the best fictional writings and movies about ghosts, zombies and vampires this theme seems to come about. In reality no such thing exists.

You can use Hypnosis to help your body relax, prior to going to sleep. You can even use Hypnosis to block pains and slow down your heart rate, etc. But this is done through focusing, and concentration in your mind - in fact, you are very much aware, and interacting in the process, you speak, you think, you can move... all while in Hypnosis.

Some people think they were not Hypnotized due to the fact that they were able to hear and understand everything!!! Yes, of course! Hypnosis is a state of awareness and altered consciousness. (yet very relaxing)

You will hear and understand the entire session. You will remember all of the session. You will even do the exercises from the session when you're out of Hypnosis.

During the session, you will participate by responding to questions and explaining images or feelings you experience. You will hear and speak as you normally do. Most sessions are done with closed eyes, as visual distractions tend to bring a person out of Hypnosis.

Is each session the same, or is each session different?

Together we will create a personal Plan, as a guideline to the next, working sessions. This plan will form the guideline to the hypnosis work. Together we will determine if we can do the work in one or more sessions. Some work, such as fear of spiders, can often be completed in a single session. Some work, such as weight management, needs to be planned over time.

Each session is designed to build on the previous session and the integration of the work between the sessions. No two sessions are alike. We follow a custom plan (session protocol) that is individually tailored to your needs and rate-of-change.

We focus on progress, not repetition. Between sessions you may be given 'homework' which we can integrate into the next session. This approach provides you with the ability to move forward and build on your own, personal power.

How long does it take to start working?

It STARTS to work right away. Some of the processes take a little time to fully manifest themselves, but when you leave the office with your first homework assignment, you will feel empowered, motivated and ready for the next step. Some programs, such as Weight loss and Fertility, by their nature take more time than, for example, a less severe case of fear (such as spiders or bugs).

You may feel a change right away. Some people feel deeper changes after a few nights of sleep and others only realize the change after they react differently to Subsequent Events or new triggers.

How many hypnosis sessions do I need?

Most people need to become familiar with Hypnosis first. This may take as little as 10 minutes and the work can start right away. Some may need a full hour to experience a relaxed mind and body. We will determine the number of sessions based on experience and results.

For less complex issues we may only need 1 session, with a follow-up. For more deep-rooted issues we aim to work as efficiently as possible to combine sessions and issues in order to create workable solutions in the fewest number of sessions.

Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy?

Outside Ontario, this type of trance work is often referred to as Hypnotherapy, but in order to adhere to the new guidelines regarding the use and possible confusion between Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy the phrase Client-Centered Hypnosis is encouraged to more closely define the role of a Facilitating Hypnotist (formally also known as Hypnotherapist, Hypnotic Guide or Trance Worker).

The title Hypnotherapist is being replaced by the words Consulting Hypnotist (CH).
In Ontario there are still many Hypnotists who refer to themselves as Hypnotherapist but it must be understood that Psychotherapy is a Licensed Profession with rights to perform 'Controlled Acts' such as the diagnoses and treatment of (Mental) Illness. Psychologists, Psychiatrists and other Licensed Mental Health Professionals do, at times, use Hypnosis in their therapies.

Consulting Hypnotists provide services for people who are not in need of a Psychotherapist or Psychiatrist, or as complementary service for people who are already under the care of a licensed practitioner. Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy cannot be used to diagnose illness, nor to replace prescribed treatments (without the implicit awareness of the treating physician)

Even Psychotherapists who use Hypnosis in their practice will be referring to themselves as Psychotherapist - Consulting Hypnotist and not Hypnotherapist.

Do you record the sessions?

I have the equipment to record sessions and reserve the right to turn on the recorder in case I feel a need for witnessing part of the session.

In most cases the sessions are not recorded. For the most part because:

  • You will be present and able to remember the whole session
  • You are interested in the outcome of the session, not the specific content
  • Some verbal techniques I use, the timining of my speach, etc. are closely tuned to your reactions, breathing and other rhythms. Looking back over a taped session may cause you to 'rewind' the result and you can lose the benefit of the session.

In case of Past Life Exploration (i.e. for recreational purposes or curiosity) I will gladly tape the PLE portion of the session for you to use in your research.

Is your hypnosis better than others?

Yes, of course it is.
My approach to hynosis and hypnotherapy is influenced by my personal life experiences, amount and direction of interests and training.

Specifically the Mind-Body studies and experiments have lead me to new techniques and discoveries which are not (yet) implemented in mainstream hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a technique to take a person into trance. What a client does when they are in trance varies much between hypnotist.

This is why I encourage you to pick up the phone and come in for a consultation. Its free and you will be able to become familiar with my approach and decide if you want to work with me or with another practitioner. There's no cost to you.

Why are your courses shorter than other Schools?

The course format is compact, but we provide the full NGH course curriculum in fewer days. This 7 day format doesn't suit everyone, but for those who have difficulty imagening themselves as students again, or for people who are too busy to take full 9 days out of their schedule, this format is the solution!

In this course, you will be in an environment where hypnosis is part of your whole day. You will have lots of opportunity to ask questions, practice, share with like-minded co-students and your Certified Instructor will be available during the entire course, for your benefit.

This format has proven, course after course, to produce highly skilled practitioners.

The side benefit of a shorter schedule is the overhead cost. Your total course price (and possible accommodation costs) are reduced.

Do you need special training before you start a course?

You need to speak and read English, understand written English.

Otherwise, the course is open for anyone who wishes to use Hypnosis in their lives or for helping others. The hypnosis course is and ideal tool for individuals who want to learn to understand how their mind turns thoughts into motivated actions.

Go to: Top

Can you do the courses in Correspondence format?

We don't offer the course in Correspondence as we don't see this as a valuable way to learn the proficiencies required to become a skilled Hypnotist.

What can I do with my Certification?

Many certified Hypnotists use their skills for motivation, self-esteem, smoking cessation, weight management, fears, stress relief, goal setting, etc. without needing to upgrade their skills.

Often people in other professions add Hypnosis to their skills and create a unique and very marketable skill set as a business.

Some people use their Hypnosis skills to continue on to Past Life Practitioner, Hypno-Massage Practitioner, Hypnosis for Childbirth, Oncology, Chronic Pain, EMT and Police, Marketing, Sports Motivation (Hypnosis), sales improvement, regression therapy, relationships, stage hypnosis, etc. etc. There are many directions for Hypnotists.

This Certification Course is Endorsed by the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) and includes a full year membership to the guild, including updates, magazines, conventions, continuing education and the extensive library of resources for all hypnotists, from Stop smoking kits to Sexual Enhancement, Ultimate Trance to Clinical Hypnosis.
